Meet your Localdost - Anindya Biswas
Discovering something new has always been at the heart of our journey together. Sometimes it was discovering a new place while travelling and sometimes it was discovering a new rhythm of life while living in the mountains. That curiosity is what led us to travel beyond the usual routes and create offbeat experiences through our work in the travel space. It also brought us closer to the people of this region, learning from them and working with indigenous knowledge while shaping the food and the spaces here. Even today, that spirit of exploration continues to guide us. We find ourselves learning about the benefits of local plants, experimenting with new spices and wandering along new paths in these hills. For us, this place is not just about staying in the mountains. It is about helping people explore this beautiful valley of Kumaon a little deeper. Everything we do here is designed around that idea.

Sustainable Stewardship
3.7/5 MLD Sustainable Criteria
This property emits 90% less CO2 compared to an average hotel in Nainital. This means If you choose to stay at this Eco-resort over a typical resort in Nainital, you will be saving
0 Trees
0 Buckets Water
0% Less CO2
This is possible because our local dost (Anindya Biswas) has made sure that the property fulfils the following Eco-Sustainable travel criteria:
This property scores 3.7/5 on MylocalDost’s Sustainable Criteria — a reflection of its commitment to conscious living. From supporting local livelihoods to protecting nature, every choice here is creating real, lasting impact. Here’s How:
Supports Local Communities & Cultures
Our presence within Salla Rautela is modeled on mutual nourishment. While you unplug to heal, your stay quietly fuels a hyper-local microeconomy. Over half of our seasonal menus are dictated by the harvests of our immediate neighbors, ensuring that the ancient agrarian knowledge of Kumaon is financially sustained and respected by modern travelers.
Green Environment & Biodiversity Conservation
Our luxury tents do not conquer the landscape; they surrender to it. We occupy the only preserved stretch of ancient broadleaf oak in a region dominated by pine. Because oaks are the primary water-bearers and soil-binders of the Himalayas, our stewardship involves an uncompromising defense of this critical micro-habitat. This grove is a fortress for local avian life and a living lung for the surrounding hills.
Air & Water Quality
Step into an atmosphere thick with phytoncides, the natural, stress-reducing essential oils emitted by ancient oak trees. The air quality here serves as a powerful respiratory therapy. Beneath your feet, the deep root systems of the grove purify the rainwater we actively harvest, transforming precipitation into the pristine, mineral-rich water that hydrates your stay.
Waste Management
A healing environment requires an unblemished foundation. We practice a radical "leave no trace" ethos within the glamping site. By managing all kitchen organics through composting and eliminating single-use plastics from our supply chain, we ensure that our human presence does not interrupt the fragile, cyclical nourishment of the forest floor.
Temperature & Energy Management
Canvas living is an exercise in elemental harmony. Rather than fighting the climate with heavy machinery, our tents rely on the natural, multi-tiered canopy of the oak grove to provide ambient cooling in the summer and wind-shielding in the winter. Our low-impact lighting is meant only to guide, never to overpower the darkness, allowing your circadian rhythms to naturally reset.
Travel & Transportation
The healing journey truly begins the moment you step off paved roads. We ask our guests to embrace the quiet effort of arriving. Opting for shared transit from Kathgodam and walking the final approach to the campsite acts as a physical decompression, shifting your physiological state from urban urgency to forested stillness before you even unzip your tent.
Food & Guest Experience
This is the practice of *Shinrin-yoku* (forest bathing) elevated to luxury. Your stay is designed not for activity, but for profound stillness. Accompanied only by the rustle of leaves and the calls of native birds, your time here is a prescription for deep rest; An opportunity to lower cortisol, steady the heart rate, and remember how to breathe without restriction.
Education on Sustainable Living
Our glamping structures celebrate the philosophy of impermanence. Designed to exist lightly on the earth, the platforms and canvas touch the soil with reverence. They offer the primal, grounding sensation of sleeping outside, while protecting you with modern warmth and comfort, proving that true luxury does not require a foundation of concrete.
